Alex Ferrari’s CYN: Sexy, Hip and Dangerous

Alex Ferrari is back after his slick indie short, “Broken” and he’s bringing sexy with him. “Cyn”, above all else, is ultra-hip and sexy. Ferrari has a knack for creating dark characters that we love, especially his women. Ferrari’s girls are reminiscent of Tarantino’s repertoire of bad girls.
“CYN†concerns a kidnapping that has already taken place when the film begins. A woman is held hostage by two psychopaths (Mr. Sugar and Otto) in an old abandon kindergarten. Elsewhere, someone watches the kidnapped Cyn on a closed circuit monitor. Cyn quickly turns the tables on them soon the night becomes a cat and mouse mind game.
The cast was superb in bringing depth and a sense of history to their characters. Remember, the entire short is only 5 minutes and for an actor to make us feel like we are seeing a lot more going on than is actually on screen is no easy task, although the cast of “Cyn†makes it look easy.
The soundtrack should be mentioned as it does add to the increasing tension that builds throughout the short without distracting from the story. Many independent filmmakers neglect sound, not only in having a complimentary soundtrack but also in sound design. Everyone in the business of sound design and composing in the film industry will tell you that if you “notice†the sound they are not doing their job properly. Thankfully, Ferrari realizes the importance of sound and creates a thrilling blend of sight and sound for his viewers.
The visual effects in “Cyn” are amazing when you take into account that the budget was just under $1000. What was once only available to Hollywood is now in the hands of indie filmmakers, and thank God for that! It blew me away…:)
It starts with a desperate looking woman tied up held hostage by two men as they chat about how she is the bait that will bring forth who they are really after. You get the feeling that this desperate girl is fucked as she sits their waiting her demise with lips quivering in fear.
Alex Ferrari’s “Cyn” was amazing to watch and considering it is only 5 minutes long, it is jam-packed with everything you could ever ask for, even having characters that seem already at home with the viewers. As Otto and Jesse wait patiently “Cyn” suddenly turns the tables on them by out smarting the one and then she wipes up the floor with the other guy effortlessly.
I love seeing strong female characters kicking ass…it shows that not all women are these frail little creatures that need looking after like a toddler with a fork around the powert outlets. So much action is packed in this short your head will spin in delight.
I know everyone that see’s this will be vying for a full length feature, his email will be overflowing with praise from new adoring fans (like myself) begging and pleading for more of “Cyn.” It seemed like Daddy was the one watching from a video monitor as Cyn dealt with her situation quite nicely.
As Cyn and Daddy walk off together their conversation hints at hopefully another episode of this twisted team- a modern day Bonnie and Clyde if you will. If you have the chance check it out- do it! It only takes up 5 minutes of your time and I guarantee you’ll be left wondering what kind of havoc this devilish pair could create!
