The Shark Is Still Working- Directed by Erik Hollander

Unless you have lived under a rock you already know of the great legacy of “Jaws,” well most of it anyway. I remember seeing the movie and I couldn’t even go in the pool in broad daylight without thinking some dorsal fin would come poking thru the waters surface warning me of the impending doom. I also received the soundtrack album for a b-day present as a child and me and my cousin used to put it on and sit on my twin bed pretending to be on a boat out on the vast sea searching for that killer great white shark. But when my Grandmom “Tilly” would call us to go eat lunch we both were afraid to put our feet on the ground thinking we would become shark bait for sure. How crazy is that? Millions of people have been affected by this movie and I was certainly one of them. No oceans for me…ever!

“The Shark is Still Working” is an enthralling look at how “Jaws” was made and all the obstacles they had to get over to get the movie finished. I never knew that the shark was nick named “Bruce” and the reason he is absent for most of the film was because they couldn’t get it to work underwater. Many of the actors tell affectionate stories of the 12 ton hydraulic Bruce’s rare but vital appearances. “Richard Dreyfuss‘s” comical take on the shark not working had me laughing out loud.. I also didn’t know that “Spielberg” was only 27 years old when they filmed “Jaws” Directors like “Kevin Smith” and “Eli Roth” both gush of their love for “Jaws” and why it meant so much to each of them, you can see the excitement in their eyes as they speak. It’s also narrated by “Chief Brody” himself.

“Jaws” is definitely a movie that remarkably enough shows that the less you see the more frightened you can become. Looking out into those murky ocean waters just knowing that it was coming but you couldn’t see that shark. The soundtrack is what really brings those visions to you. You can ask anybody and they will hum you those first bars of the theme song with the precision of each note in the score. It’s amazing how the music affects you and it still manages to give me goose bumps STILL after all these years. No one ever dreamt that Spielberg’s take on author “Peter Benchley’s” book would become such a huge success that generation after generation could enjoy with the hairs on the back of their necks rising to prove that they are still scared senseless, no matter how much they try and deny it. ‘The Shark Is Still Working” is a must have for every “Jaws” fan out there so you need to go to their websites posted below and see how much you are missing out on!
