Two Front Teeth- Out November 25th!
November 23, 2008
“I’m dreaming of a crimson Christmas, just like the one I used to know…”
Every year we have the tradition of watching my favorite Christmas movie ever- Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer! Shut up, stop laughing its just magical to me. After watching Two Front Teeth from Jamie Nash and David Thomas Sckrabulis I decided it had to be put on my Christmas eve movie list. Now don’t get me wrong this isn’t a beautiful Christmas story wrapped in a big red bow, this is a Christmas that has presents soaked in blood.
Sharp toothed zombie elves dressed in black outfits work for the bad Santa who wants to hunt Gabe down like an animal with rabies. Gabe has a problem, he is terrified of Santa. I mean he convulses like an electric current just shocked his ass if he see’s him, talk about having an irrational fear right? His hard ass cheating wife Noel has way bigger Christmas balls then he does. Gabe is just plain pathetic!
I loved when they were all fighting for their lives with a trailer of zombie elves and one gets a hold of Pete and he screams “Cock Sucker,” I laughed till my belly ached. There are also some Dr. Seuss phrases flying around just like that darn certain notorious red nosed reindeer that took down flight 1225! Two Front Teeth has blood, Ninja Nuns, and festive decorations to make you feel all sentimental and warm inside.
This movie had me loving every second of it. Clausferatu needed to meet up with Hermie the elve that wanted to be a dentist to see what he could do with those pointy chops of his. If you can’t sit there and have a good time watching this, there’s gotta be something wrong with you! Here is a film that has those pesky Christmas carolers… only they are in pieces on the front lawn.

Alexander S. Brown sent me a copy of his book Traumatized and it kept me on my couch the whole weekend with my nose buried in his 15 fabulous tales. This is a smorgasboard of stories to tempt your sensory taste buds with. I say this because there is a story about every topic there is- from witches, demons, and hell, to a nasty bout with sushi! But here is the thing, even though they are topics we’ve already heard about thousands of times before, they are all still original storylines that haven’t already been imprinted in your noggin from years of previous experience. It’s always hard enough to find an author you like, but I can assure you Brown’s work will impress you.

Monday night, November 17, our special guest on Some Scene Radio will be Actress Kristina Hughes. Kristina Hughes, a New England native and a firm believer that through hard work and perseverance one’s acting career can flourish to “expected heights” while unveiling “unexpected roles”.
While growing up in Medford, Massachusetts and attending Lexington Christian Academy in the suburbs of Boston in her late teens, she was captivated by the Entertainment Industry while acting in local theatre productions, participating in finishing school and involving herself in modeling. Ms. Hughes then took the next step to follow her curiosity and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English/Communications with a concentration in Writing and Theatre from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
Soon after she made her way to NYC and Florida to train, audition and work as an actor on the sets of Thunder in Paradise, DropZone, Central Park West and on stage in Pomp, Duck and Circumstance. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Hughes experienced the thrill of competing in the world-renowned ‘Miss USA Pageant’ as the proud representative of ‘The Constitution State’- embracing the coveted role of “Miss Connecticut USA”.
With the intent of making acting her career, she re-located to Los Angeles. Since the big move she has appeared on Boston Legal, NYPD Blue, Old School, Unwrapped, Days of Our Lives, Party of Five — has been cast in several independent films (most recently starring in the psychological thriller Green River — has appeared in numerous short films, industrials and national commercials.

The Big Bond Review! (warning:spoilers be ahead!)
November 15, 2008
Just got back from the big midnight showing of ‘Quantum Of Solace’, after my gig earlier today. Hmmm… where to begin…
Now you’re probably thinking, ” Whoa oh… Mikie didn’t like this one either…”, well that’s not totally true. I really like and embrace the new, gritty, hard-core JB as portrayed by the intense and enigmatic Daniel Craig, a fellow who I consider quite the fine actor, there ‘ya go. I enjoy the dark and realistic tone of the new films and their take-no-prisoners attytood. I like the new direction the series has taken… except in QOS, I whole-heartedly despise the direction, (and editing), at work this time ’round.
Please, please, Ms. Broccoli, Mr. Wilson, I’ve trusted you for the last 3 decades with the world’s greatest film franchise without question, without fear, but please tell me that this was just a one-time experiment. A little foray into the Hollywood version of the action film and not a vision of things to come.
One of the gold standards of the Bond franchise, indeed a benchmark for all others to follow throughout the movie world has always been the action sequences. From Dr. No thru Casino Royale 21, (yes, even Die Another Day included – sword fight/ice driving sequences people, lest you’ve forgotten? ^_^), the Bond action set pieces are prolly the most anticipated scenes audences crave.
What we’re given, dear Bondites, in QOS, with almost no letup are heaps and heaps of 4 and 8 frame cut shots of hand-to-hand combat, boat chases, car crashes and aerial dogfighting, et al. The highlight of the Bond action sequence has been the fact that we actually see the frickin’ action, flat out and in your face full view for all the audience to relish. The fact that 95% of the action in QOS is completely obliterated by this fast-cut editing/directorial technique was quite intolerable for me and many of the folks sitting around me and my friends.
The fast 4 or 8 frame cut technique was actually pioneered in the mid to late 70’s by the early Hong Kong martial arts directors but used to artistically emphasize some acrcane combat move or stylize a particular characters’ action, much the way you might see a comic book panel drawing, (plus it was also a way of saving a little film and editing time in the production.) This technique was to remain in the shadows of low budget, b-film world until the late 80’s when maverick tv producers like Michael Mann and Stephen Cannell and up-and-coming MTV video directors like Spike Jonze re-discovered and refined the technique to a high art form. Since those days, the fast cut, especially ubiquitous in high-powered action films, has beed used extensively and, since the turn of this century, abused in obscene and copious amounts. One type of big time action film had been seemingly immune to this practice… until now.
Why am I harping on this one thing to the Nth degree when the rest of this film is bordering on brilliance? Because it’s so GDamn annoying, that’s why! Take out that dusty old copy of Chronicles Of Riddick, The Kingdom, Blade 3, Transporter2, Miami Vice, War, and even some of the animated dreck coming out lately. Don’t even get me started on Speed Racer.
Here’s somebody that must have read my mind on this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2008/nov/05/action-films-bad-editing
What gave the Bond films most of their tension and the reason most people come back year after year,(me included), is those great, oft imitated full-on ,physical action set-pieces by some of the greatest stunt men and special efx crews in film history. All of that is thrown completely out the window with the quick, fast frame digital edit. Totally bogus. I was very disciplined this time around in not reading any reviews or comments about QOS but now I’m reading oodles of similar comments as mine on the IMDB threads and elsewhere whilst writing this review.
I will alway love JB, prolly in any form for all my remaining days on this earth but I can’t be totally sure that Cubby isn’t turning over in his grave right about now. Please Barbara and Michael, let this be the only Bond ‘of it’s kind’, and trust the audience and the ‘real’ spirit of the best film franchise of all time.
In this business, it’s all about who you can trust.

Sam came back home to visit her father and his lover Frank after becoming a newly married woman. You can see that Frank and daddy Dennis are meant for each other- the love and happiness is clearly visible on both of their faces. Thankfully Sammi was raised by both and has no hang ups what so ever about being the child with another dad as a mother.
Since Sammi’s husband is a total homophobic fuck he starts pumping idea’s in her head about her fathers lover Frank. At first she doesn’t by into it but then he relentlessly pursues the idea until it is embedded into her confused brain. Will she fall for her hubby’s made up innuendos or will she use her own brain cells to figure out the situation at hand?
This film shows how a person we love can sometime’s sway our opinion or even brain wash us into believing that their view is the right one, or the only one. I felt ashamed of the husband for being so heartless but even more at Sammi for not sticking to her guns. I wanted to kick that narrow minded prick in his groin and curse him to high heaven but then I’d be as lowly as him!

Among The Insane, Inside The Asylum House

When the leaves turn from vibrant green to shades of red, yellow, and brown you know that fall along with Halloween is well on it’s way. Some people like to stroll thru the park, others like to carve up their pumpkins and eat their toasted salty seeds. But then there are others like myself who want to go sample some of the spooky haunted houses that are set up for about a month or two of fun.
The Asylum House dominates Halloween in Indianapolis, In. It started with a little love and some very creative people. I would love to work in one and think to myself what character would I wanna be? Something old, something new or something flat out freaky? Watching this documentary on the house you really do realize that you are witnessing something special.
The people who work here are all like family to each other. Sure they have good days and bad days just like the rest of us but then they always have a fan “fuckin” tastic time in creating their rooms or playing out their characters. The actors totally rule the roost with their practiced screams and skits. You never know how a guest is going to react, it does seem that the bigger they are the harder they fall.
Bright pink wigged Trick is your host and a well know landmark at the The Asylum House. He is also the head honcho over there at the attraction itself and normally spends 365 days a year thinking and planning for the following years opening season. Every once in awhile they might get a party pooper who deems it as sucky but mostly this place is well known and widely visited.

After a brief welcome she is told to go down the stairs and into the room with the lights. Once there wait for the lady of the house to come greet you. You realize that Viola is there because she wants to become a creature of the night and this veiled lady promised her a shot if she showed up. What do you do when your life becomes consumed by an unhealthy obsession? Chris Jackson has come to this point in his life and he is really starting to wonder if he is starting to lose his freakin mind, or did he lose it along time ago? His work as a taxi driver is suffering and his friends and lover notice the erratic changes that have been made in his appearance and his character.
Slowly life as he knows it slips thru his fingers as he battles with hallucinations and visions from his traumatizing childhood. Could his abuse be leading to this mental breakdown? What did Chris’s mom do to him to make him that terrified and disgusted of her? Can he face the past to be able to live in the future? Guided by nothing but his own instincts, Chris must decide on what to do.
The situation is somewhat explained to him and basically it boils down to, on this Earth there are multiple planes of reality and somehow he possesses the power to pass thru this threshold. The Goddess shows up finally and his experiment on OCD is now a naked reality sitting in his living room. There seems to be a catch, every time he encounters the Goddess his flesh turns red and hurts.
The torture this man endures gives a hit or inkling of a Hellraiser theme, especially when the goddess first arrives blood soaked and naked. It made me think of Julia before she got her skin and was all bloody muscles and bones. Can Chris break himself away from becoming the personal sex slave of his one time obsession? Or will he learn that nothing in life comes free, there are always twisted circumstances?

CottonMouth- horror short from Christopher Gaetano

Directed by: Christopher Gaetano
Fortuneteller Films
A man who invented a certain luxury for women is being sought after and slowly tortured by angry deceased patients who feel they shouldn’t of had to die from that unnecessary infection. Didn’t he know what could happen from the use of this blood soaker? Death shouldn’t have been an option for these poor women. Grief has caused these relentless broken souls to harvest such anger that it boils them down to a crazed entity. Was this situation a fluke accident or did the man know there could be these horrible side effects from long use? This story was adapted from the comic book tale from artist Stephen R. Bissette which left a permanent imprint on director C. Gaetano’s young nubile brain.
