Kelli Maroney Interview by The Angry Princess
April 27, 2008
I still remember going to the mall and then walking across the street with my friend Karen to see Night Of The Comet. How did you get involved in that?
I was in LA from NYC, just checking out pilot season and was called in to audition. My trip was over, went back to NYC, and one day got a phone call to come back to LA because I got the part. If I had known I was going to be cast I would’ve stayed here! But I came back.
You were so cute in your little cheerleading outfit. Were your ever a cheerleader in school?
No–I was a pretty shy kid.
I read that a German rock band called Almost Charlie wrote a song called Kelli Maroney, how cool was that?
Very. Quite a surprise. I understand that they were afraid I was going to take it the wrong way, but I was most flattered–who wouldn’t be? It was one of the reasons I decided to come back into the business. When you take a break, it’s easy to feel that since you’ve been away, people forgot about you, etc. but that song made it hard to feel forgotten. I loved it and it was a great encouragement that came at a perfect time, too.
What is your favorite horror movie?
It depends on what I’ve seen recently. I watch films from all different decades. Right now I think it would be Bogeyman.
Did you ever have an outrageous crush on a celebrity?
No, but I hear it’s fun.
Is there anyone out there in the film industry that you would like to work with?
Tons of amazing folks!
Do you believe in ghosts?
I believe there are identities around that don’t have physical bodies, yes.
Were you a bully or were you ever bullied at school?
I totally got picked on!
Would you rather read a book or watch a movie?
Watch a movie. I wish I could say read a book, though.
Any future plans in horror? Or movies in general?
Yes–I am part owner/producer/actor in Nightmare Carnival and Shadowland, and am in discussions for two other films as well.

“They drew first blood, not me!”
April 27, 2008
Most of the time Fathom Events is showing Opera in HD (by the way, during one of these Opera previews before a movie, a friend had blurted out, “High Definition Boredom.” Best line EVER). However, Fathom Events comes through from time to time, showing Poltergeist (even if it was in the wrong aspect ratio I still enjoyed it), Halloween and more. Once again they will have my money. On May 15th participating theaters will be showing First Blood, the first and best in the Rambo series. This movie ROCKS and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen. We will be seeing it at Neshaminy Mall, join us if you are in the area. If not, go to www.FathomEvents.com and find out where in your area it will be playing and bring a good supply of body bags.

When I was in high school, I would attend keg parties. I had an uncanny ability, a precognition if you will, to know the exact moment to leave the party before it would get busted. I don’t attribute this power to anything supernatural. It is a result of knowing human behavior. People are predictable, especially high school teenagers at keg parties. It was some point between the the first kid puking and the moment an attractive girl falls down the staircase, smashing through the drywall at the bottom that I knew it was time to leave. After the first few parties, my friends knew to follow my lead. We’d stumble home down dark streets as the sounds of police sirens behind us send masses of scared teens darting out of the house like wasps swarming outside a nest that was agitated by a curious child. Know human behavior – know the future.
So when I sat down and watched 21, it wasn’t long before I could see where the story was going. With each new reveal the twist ending revealed itself to me earlier than I would prefer. The script is your typical Hollywood formula fodder. Place character A in plot slot B. It is not to say that 21, the fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained to become experts in card counting and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings, isn’t without its merits.
Ben (Sturgess) is getting straight A’s at MIT and on the way to Harvard Med School. Except he can’t afford the fees. Then a professor (Spacey) asks him to join a secret group of brainy students who spend weekends in Vegas counting cards and making a fortune at blackjack. The main temptation, besides the money, is that the campus hottie (Bosworth) is on the team. But Ben is bitten by the gambling bug and success goes to his head as he ignores his old MIT pals (Gad and Golzari).
Kevin Spacey phones in his performance as a professor who in his heyday used to take casinos for millions but for some reason stopped and now leads his students in the art of card counting. Spacey needs a role that challenges him. His Lex Luther in Superman Returns was awful. He wasn’t Lex at all, just a bald Kevin Spacey. That film however had more problems than just a mis-cast Luther.
Luckily 21 had another Superman Returns alum, Kate Bosworth. Her character was your run-of-the-mill, beautiful and brainy love interest but she brought a lot to the role, skillfully pulling off both sexy and smart. The other kids were sufficient enough for the simple story but nobody “jumped off the screen.”
Lawrence Fishbourne’s character, Cole, a security guard facing an early retirement because a new face recognition software program has made him obsolete, is just another example of your plug-n-play Hollywood bad guy. It could have been Samuel L. Jackson in the role but I’m guessing the PG-13 rating wouldn’t allow him to say “motherfucker” so he passed on it.
The real allure of the film is the lifestyle these kids lead while at the peak of their game. Vegas, designer clothes, VIP parties, fast women – The American Dream – the best of best. These kids were living it up. It is this that will have every American probably rushing out to the nearest Barnes & Noble and picking up a copy of “Counting Cards for Dummies” in an effort to get rich quick.
If you are pressed as to what movie to see, you could do a lot worse than 21. It does its job. These scripts are formula for a reason, they work. However, when you’ve seen it done thousands upon thousands of times, just like a kegger with kids, you could leave the party early and still know how it will end.
Guillermo del Toro to direct “The Hobbit”
April 25, 2008
What’s it take to direct the works of J.R.R. Tolkien? Apparently a full beard and being overweight. (I kid, I kid). Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) will be at the helm of the film and its sequel. Peter Jackson is on board as Executive Director. The Associated Press article is below.LOS ANGELES – Guillermo del Toro is directing “The Hobbit” and its sequel, New Line Cinema announced Thursday.
The 43-year-old filmmaker will move to New Zealand for four years to make the films back-to-back with executive producer Peter Jackson.
Del Toro wrote and directed “Pan’s Labyrinth,” which earned six Oscar nominations in 2006 and won three awards. He is also the director of the upcoming sequel “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” whose monsters bear the unmistakeable surreal vision of the Mexican-born filmmaker.
“I am indeed blessed to become a part of the filmmaking community that Peter, Fran and their extraordinary team of collaborators have created in New Zealand,” del Toro said in a statement. “Contributing to the ’Lord of the Rings’ legacy is an absolute dream come true.”
Jackson and Walsh called del Toro “a cinematic magician who has never lost his childlike sense of wonder.”
“We have long admired Guillermo’s work and cannot think of a more inspired filmmaker to take the journey back to Middle-Earth,” they said in a statement.
Jackson co-wrote, co-produced and directed the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which won 17 Oscar and 30 nominations.

Johnny Sunshine
April 24, 2008
At first glance I thought this androgynous like creature was a man in woman’s digs but I was wrong. Johnny Sunshine is definitely a female and she likes the kill fuck. Johnny might be achick but she kills like a man. She can kick some major ass and will if you fuck with her. In Johnny’s world reality TV is the in thing. Well wait a minute, I guess it is in our world as well.
Johnny goes out and selects her victims brings them back and tortures them right before she fucks then murders them. She needs the hot warm blood spurting all over her face and body to become aroused- hey we all have fetishes right? There’s also Max seems to be the king of the city and he will not hesitate to watch you be maimed and killed.
This movie made my stomach turn a few times but never enough to turn away. If you are of a subtle nature this movie will whip you senseless and leave you lying in a quivering heap on the floor. It was way bloodier and twisted than I thought it would be, which was an added bonus. The world we live in today loves conflict and brutality and this flick has both.
Somewhere in the back of your mind tells you that Johnny Sunshine has some severe mental problems that allow her to want and need these kills. Can this woman survive in such a holocaustic environment over run by evil? Do you like to watch? If so then this is certainly on your side of the fence. Reality bites, stabs, and fucks some major shit up while you the viewer tries to get a decent grip.
Lethal Force Director, Sir Alvin D. Ecarma on TISS Radio
April 22, 2008
In the latest episode of This Is Some Scene, Doug and I interview Sir Alvin D. Ecarma, director of the independent film, LETHAL FORCE.
Difficult to see for many years until it’s US domestic dvd release last Fall, LETHAL FORCE was declared one of Ain’t It Cool News’ Top Ten Indies of 2001 and went on to gain accolades from both the mainstream and microcinema press, with the Washington Post declaring it “Proudly Cheesy!” and Psychotronic Video Magazine hailing it as “Clever and violent… (with) violent and surreal surprises with over the top action, blood and gore!”

Blood Curse-Werewolf For Hire Book One from Nic Brown
April 22, 2008
Mr. Warren is a very interesting man, and an even more interesting werewolf. Michael specializes in some very sticky situations like fighting magnifigant creatures like the scaly Dracors, and zombies He is well trained in magic and his great friend Tabitha is a bonifide witch. Never was I a big fan of werewolves…until now. Nic Brown’s “Werewolf For Hire” sucked me in from the first page and I could hardly put it down. The story weaves in a colorful cast like Dariya, Ciara, The Sheik, and of course Michael Warren who go from one adventure to the next. Nic Brown is so descriptive that you read thru these fight scenes and it becomes the home made movie in your mind, I can honestly see this book becoming a feature film- it’s that good!
Contains: Violence: black magic, violence, torture, rituals, descriptions of occult behavior, sex, language
