Angst

February 27, 2008

Recently I received a nice sized package with a bunch of MTI videos including the title Angst. Reading the back I discovered the story was about a girl who had a very personal problem. You see every time poor Helen has sex her vagina sucks the invading partner right up inside and they disappear forever. Now reading over what I just wrote I know there has to be someone out there thinking I am totally insane.Am I a pervert? Maybe, since I thought of how I haven’t seen a freakishly good flick like this since seeing Freeway with Reese Witherspoon and Keiffer Sutherland way back when. These two films have nothing in common besides being a shockingly good find. Fiona Horsley plays Helen a charming but abnormal girl with a serious problem that won’t allow her to have a decent sex life. When it was hungry you hear its cries of hunger and the pain would grip her to the point where she would have to sacrifice some slob to silence it all. Will Helen ever be able to have a normal life? Dennis, who is in love with her and wants to be with her follows her after she leaves on a train to search for her. On his wild goose hunt he meets Sophia and her twin sister who he falls in brief desperate love with until an unfortunate accident ruins it all for him.Maybe you need a sick sense of humor like me- no really you do because I don’t think my dad would get into this but my mom sure would get a kick out of it. It’s all a matter of what you can handle. I can’t stress to you how I sat there the whole time loving every sick twisted turn it would take. I think I will be telling everyone I know that they have to try this baby on for size! It’s definately different!

The Haunting Of Rebecca Verlaine- MTI Home Video

February 27, 2008

Finally a decent movie that had plenty of moments that snuck up and made you jump in your seat or where ever else you might be vegging out to watch this. The Haunting Of Rebecca Verlaine was just what the doctor ordered, a reviewer does get tired of watching the same old things. Bad movies are like kryptonite to Superman; they drain you and almost kill you with their same stories only told by a different producer.Rebecca lived at the Verlaine farm with her father and a bunch of other hippies. One night someone comes and brutally murders everyone in the house but her. Don’t get me wrong she was attacked but for some reason she manages to stay alive. Her Aunt and Uncle adopt her and she grows up not knowing who she really is, until scary flashbacks occur as her brain tries to filter for the truth. The ghosts of the hippie commune victims were pretty gory and added to an already spooktacular atmosphere. There was lots of blood and gore for all of us out there that aren’t happy till the red spills. It kept me interested for the entire 91 minutes which is a great feat in the movie watching biz these days and I am far from kidding. Independent or big release company’s aren’t pumping out any newness. If you like a tale of the supernatural, ghosts or even cannibalism Rebecca’s Haunting is one of the 2004 releases you’ll need to get. I wasn’t thinking this would be as good as it was. I mean it’s not going to blow you out of the water completely but I’ll tell you this much, they put in a great effort to make this film presentable and not seem like something that was thrown together for a quick release.

The Severed Head Network- a Wicked Pixel Production

February 25, 2008

Wicked Pixel is a film company that has a no holds barred attitude and film whatever their evil little heart’s desire. The Severed Head Network is no different. This is a film with shorts and a music video from one of my favorite directors, Eric Stanze. The first one titled Vomire was not for me. Seeing a cow get the gun to the head before it’s disemboweled to be used for our dinners and snacks- I am to sensitive for that shit so naturally it has got me thinking of giving up meat!I don’t imagine many men cringe at that sort of thing but it was hard for me, it was like watching Faces of Death all over again. Not all of the shorts are gross. Eric Stanze has a video that he has produced on here as well as a sexy story from Tommy Biondo. Jason Christ whom I recently met at a past Monster Mania convention also has his work on display. This video was honestly not my cup of anything, I think I am too weak minded to handle some of the content. Sedgewick was my favorite out of all the pieces, I actually enjoyed it! I’ll admit he was a rare find.

Bus Pirates: Episode 5 “Revenge of the Culver Revenge”

February 23, 2008

I just caught up with the Bus Pirates and the latest episode, “Revenge of the Culver Revenge.”

Our hero, Dan, after speaking with “The Black Oracle” finds Captain Jack Bonier and the other pirates relaxing with coffee drinks. They are so lost in caffeine heaven that they lose sight of their mission and forgetting who Christy (robot or girl) is, that is until Dan brings them back to reality when they catch up with Redbeard’s bus.

Dan takes matters into his own hands, driving the bus along side Redbeard’s before he transfers the driving duties over to a boy passenger. Dan then leaps out onto the roof of the bus in a daring attempt to rescue Christy from the evil clutches of Redbeard. Will Dan succeed? We have to wait until the next episode of “The Bus Pirates.”

Despite the long wait between each episodes, they are just short enough and packed with adventure, that I can’t help but love this series. I’d like to see an end soon, however, and perhaps see a new season starting.

Among the Insane – a feature length commercial?

February 22, 2008

“Among the Insane: Inside the Asylum House” feels more like a feature length commercial than a documentary about Indiana’s premiere haunted attraction, The Asylum House, leaving me torn as to how to review the film.

Director James Mannan managed to capture the personalities that haunt this spook house. It is fun to get to know these characters, especially co-owner Pat, who is perhaps a little too proud of his store bought purple wig, making him appear more like a character torn right out of Guitar Hero III than anything from a house of horrors. As silly as it appears in the film’s opening, you quickly realize that it works and it sets the stage for an array of the strange that inhabit Pat’s Asylum House.

The problem I have with this film is that it feels like a corporate film for new employees, albeit a deranged corporate film, but still a “welcome, new employee, to the Asylum House” film. On top of that it feels very much like a commercial and as a commerical it works. If ever in Indiana, I really, REALLY want to go to the Asylum House. Being a fan of the Halloween holiday and haunted houses, the Asylum House would appear to be the Mecca of haunted attractions in America. They really know what they are doing and you can tell they all love doing it.

However, as a film critic, I would have prefered to see this documentary focus on the haunted attraction industry as a whole, interviewing attractions throughout the United States and giving us the in’s and out’s of a sub-culture that most of us don’t get to see that often. We only glimpse these people as they jump out of the shadows to scare us in October, but they live that lifestyle year round.

If you are from Indiana or heading there, this film would help in giving you a head’s up on what some call the greatest haunted attraction in America.

Oh, did I mention that they have an S&M Dungeon in the Asylum House with super-hot chicks? They do. In all the haunted houses I’ve been in I have never seen anything as cool as that.

Interview with Dark/Fantasy Artist Danial McClinton

February 22, 2008

Tell us a little about yourself: My name is Danial and I’m 29 from Gainesville Texas. As you can see I paint dark and fantasy art which I just recently found out a few years ago that I have great imagination for it and taught myself to paint. I am currently working on several things a series of paintings based on ghost stories and combining poetry from my friend Raina’s and my art to give them a more personal feel we tell the story and there’s a through darkness I reign calendar. I read on your website that you taught yourself how to draw. How old were you when your artistic ability began to shine thru?Well I was very young, I would say about 7 and I remember trying to draw the comics out of the Sunday papers- they weren’t perfect but better than a normal 7 year old. As far as painting I taught myself about 2 years ago. Were you the one in art class at your elementary school who won all the ribbons on your class projects or were you more of a reserved student who kept their talent as a secret to themselves? No I never won any ribbons but I did get one of my cartoons published in the Texas gazette. I was in art class in high school but we were never encouraged to explore our creativity You knew your artistic fate was sealed when you saw specific paintings from the artists Luis Royo and Julie Bell. Which portraits were they and what made them stand out to you? What was special enough to grab you and steer you down the fantasy/dark art path? My favorite Julie Bell, although there are so many from both artists, would be her painting called Monica, and Luis Royo would have to be Dark Thoughts. Sometimes they say writers as well as artists usually have a muse who inspires them with their work, is that the case for you? If so, who in your life is your inspiration?I actually have one lady, Raina, who does most my modeling but I also have a friend on myspace Rachael Sinn who has allowed me to paint her even though she is not one of my models she is a very gorgeous young lady and has a bright future in modeling. If you were able to travel back in time to paint the portrait of anyone in the history of the world, who would be?I think I would love to paint Bettie Page. You like to paranormal investigate as well. Any spooky stories you can share with us?Well I plan on getting into the field in the future but I think that the best ghost stories I’ve heard is of the lady in red which I plan on painting in the future also but she was a gothic girl that went to Georgia state that had no friends and no one wanted to room with her. One girl decided to give it a try but after a few months decided she was going to secretly move but the gothic girl found out and dressed herself in red and killed herself in the dorm room. They say you can see a red ball of light on the day she killed herself in the dorm. Do you watch any of the ghost shows that are out there now on cable? Do you agree with them on their way of handling the supernatural? I like Ghost Hunters (TAPS) because they go in with a skeptics view and basically have the idea that the place is not haunted until they can scientifically prove there is something there. They try and come up with ways things can happen naturally and when they can’t recreate it they realize they might have some paranormal activity going on. Do you have any psychic abilities like ESP or have the skills of a medium?I think everyone does to an extent. I dream a lot and have moments where I dreamed something and then months or years later I am doing something and realize I’ve been there before but don’t know when- but most of my paintings come from my dreams What do you believe happens to the human soul after its outer shell, being our body, dies? Does it forever rest in peace? I think there is an afterlife but I think at the moment of death you will decide where you as a person will end up. My final question is one that I try to ask everyone I interview, What’s your favorite horror movie and why? Well I’m more into vampire and werewolf movies. Out of vampire movies it would have to be Interview with the Vampire and Salem’s Lot. My favorite werewolf flicks would have to be Gingersnaps and American Werewolf in London* You can catch Daniel here*www.throughdarknessireighn.comhttp://www.myspace.com/danialmcclinton If any publishers or authors are interested, Danial is available for the art of book covers: contact: danial_mcclinton@yahoo.com

Proxima- by Carlos Atanes

February 19, 2008

Carlos Atanes broadens your mind with this Sci Fi inspired story of a DVD/disc called Journey to Proxima written by a well known and loved author Felix Cadecq’s. This DVD promises that there are other civilizations out there waiting to be known. This CD was like a passport to infinitive worlds and the gateway to the wonderful Proxima Centauri but there’s a catch …you need to die in order to be reborn.

Tony is the owner of a failing video store and seems to be having slight problems at home because of his constant gaming. His mate Natalia bitches that all he ever wants to do is play these ridiculous video games and never has time for her or anything else for that matter. Their relationship seems to on the verge of a serious breakdown or maybe even in its final stages before the inevitable end.

Imagine waiting to go to this Sci Fi convention to see your favorite author speak and he sounds like a friggin nut case. Most of the people attending get up and leave but a few stay behind and buy into what he is saying. Will this concoction of a plan work? Is it just another scam to promise you greatness when in all reality you get nothing? Would you take this risk to experience enlightment?

The People vs. George Lucas – Interview Coming Soon

February 19, 2008

Sunday night, March 2nd at 7PM EST, This Is Some Scene will be interviewing Alexandre O. Philippe, the writer and director of the “People vs. George Lucas” project LIVE at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/ThisIsSomeScene. After the interview we will take listener calls so that you may let the direcctor know what you think about George Lucas.

The People vs. George Lucas (www.peoplevsgeorge.com) is not only the first truly democratic feature film in history; it’s also a unique opportunity for the millions of opinionated Star Wars supporters and detractors everywhere to speak up about the franchise and its creator, George Lucas.

Slated for release in 2009, The People vs. George Lucas is a new kind of Star Wars fan film, and the creators would like to encourage fans to participate in the making of this exciting new documentary. This film is about empowering the fans. It’s about telling George what they love and hate about Star Wars. It’s about expressing what this franchise means to the fans, what they wish had been handled differently, and what their hopes for the future are. Above all, it’s a celebration of what binds the fans together.

More Knight Rider Please!

February 18, 2008

NBC’s 2 hour Knight Rider movie aired tonight at 9PM (EST). Not sure what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the show, the characters and the humor. The new KITT voice isn’t irritating and the banter between the car and the characters was quite humorous.

Mike Traceur a bitter former Army Ranger and failed race car driver, just got a new lease on life, neither he cares for or wants this chance to make up for his past failings. He’s got problems, he’s in debt and people want to kill him. The choice is all too obvious for him and the Knight Industries Three Thousand (K.I.T.T).

The story is typical, some bad organization wants the super high-tech weapons program in order to take over the world and the unwilling hero is plucked from his troubled life to save the day. It works. The Mustang is awesome, though I know a few Pontiac fans who are upset they didn’t bring back the Trans Am. The women are all sexy but I’m especially impressed with Sydney Tamiia Poitier (Death Proof) as the super-hot lesbian FBI Agent. David Hasselholf has a nice cameo, handing the Knight Rider torch over to the new hero, who turns out being Michael Knight’s son.

After viewing the 2 hour movie, I really would like to see them reboot this series. I was a fan as a child and I think I can like it today. Even the updated theme music isn’t all that bad.
