Poetry, Songs and Stygian Stories- Author Lucas McPherson & Cyan Jenkins as illustrator

April 26, 2010

Lucas McPherson’ Poetry, Songs and Stygian Stories might be short and to the point but they are very original mixing Vampires and Vegans to a very comical view on the latest high tech devices they have come up with to blow your mind with in the porn world in The Final Frontier (an Explicit sketch). My personal favorite out of the short stories was titled Cellulitopia (micro fiction) in which she makes you realize how vain we all have become with our appearances by paying outrageous prices to rid ourselves of our imperfections- the imperfections that society has placed upon us by shoving the whole skinny is beautiful thing in our faces all these years. Also the poetry gives us a peek at what’s floating around in that brain of hers. The hand drawn pictures in the book that compliment the story was provided by the artist Cyan Jenkins and you can find more of her work at the following website: CyanJenkins.blogspot.com

Pearls & Prey by Mary Goff

June 22, 2009

Pearls and Prey is a book mixed with short stories and very engaging poems. I didn’t expect to get thru it as quickly as I did for the content is highy enjoyable and gives a little insight of the author herself. There are stories consisting of weird tenacled creatures to an original zombie story titled Inmate 762030. If you have any love for horror or reading itself this book should be checked out. Not many people can have a story roll off their tongues and onto paper with the knack Mary Goff has and have it be something that stays in their head long after the reading is done.

Alexander S. Brown sent me a copy of his book Traumatized and it kept me on my couch the whole weekend with my nose buried in his 15 fabulous tales. This is a smorgasboard of stories to tempt your sensory taste buds with. I say this because there is a story about every topic there is- from witches, demons, and hell, to a nasty bout with sushi! But here is the thing, even though they are topics we’ve already heard about thousands of times before, they are all still original storylines that haven’t already been imprinted in your noggin from years of previous experience. It’s always hard enough to find an author you like, but I can assure you Brown’s work will impress you.
